The best way to discover the culture and history of a region is through art. This is also the case of the National Museum of Art of Romania, located in Bucharest. Today, it is appreciated as the most important art museum, with over 70,000 exhibits that keep alive the memory of artists and painters in our country.
History and presentation
Founded for the first time in 1948, the National Museum of Art satisfies the curiosities of any visitor who crosses its threshold, through the collections of paintings, the architecture of the building and the impeccable appearance it has both outside and inside. The museum has been operating within the Royal Palace in Bucharest since the first year of its existence, despite the effects felt by the building following the 1944 bombings.
The National Art Museum of Romania is the representative patrimony of medieval and modern art of Romanian origin. At present, it comprises two impressive galleries, namely:
• National Gallery - includes the Gallery of Old Romanian Art and the Gallery of Modern Romanian Art;
• European Art Gallery.
Also inside the building there are three museums that include unique collections in Romanian and international art, made in the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist period, respectively:
• Museum of Art Collections;
• K. H. Zambaccian Museum;
• Theodor Pallady Museum.
